““Jimmy’s Dream” is where the offbeat indie musician shines, pitting himself against the San Francisco housing bubble and dealing with the bigger crisis of what it means to share the American Dream.”
Cliche Magazine has continued to include Muddy Paw artists for their feature Bands Interviewing Bands! This time around, the diverse acts of New Zealand’s Lachlan Grant and San Francisco’s Seth Lael chat with each other about their musical influences and process, their greatest successes and struggles, and how they accomplish the business side of their musical pursuits.

Here at Muddy Paw, we would like to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving!
What are we most thankful for? Our amazing artists, who have always been more like family. We’re so grateful to get to work with some of the most passionate, genuine people in the industry. Thank you for allowing us that pleasure. What are you most thankful for this year?
Seth Lael has released a brand new music video for “Jimmy’s Dream.” The song depicts the harsh housing and renting market in the bay area. When asked about the song and video, “when my wife and I moved back to San Francisco 6 years ago, we rented a single room in a three room flat,” explains Lael. “After a few months, the landlord started cutting up the place, drastically reducing our living space. Our kitchen and hallway were split to create more rooms for new tenants. When we sat down to talk about it, he said, “Either deal with it or leave.”
But the song is meant to convey an even bigger message, Lael says, “we need regulation like that of prop F to keep the hotel and housing market in balance so that the city can maintain lower cost housing. Or, we need to start paying a lot more to see and hear performances!” Check out the video here.
“It is that knack for live sound, immense knowledge of songwriting and structure, and being a master of his craft why Bird Strings, Seth’s newest release, stands strongly as an album you should play start to finish.”
Everyone give Seth Lael a warm welcome to Muddy Paw – his confident, indie folk soundscapes can be heard on his debut album Bird Strings on September 28, but head over to Saucebox Music right now to hear the release of his first single “AFib Pt. 1”.
Muddy Paw can’t wait for what’s to come with this debut!
